Mrs. Virginia Charles Lanning Smith age 82 of Ray Mtn. Rd. Ellijay died Wednesday August 29, 2012.

Mrs. Smith was born on October 9, 1929 in Gilmer Co. She is the daughter of the late Herschel Charles and Minnie Langley Charles. She is a retired licensed practical nurse and was a member of the Turniptown Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husbands Homer Andrew Lanning & Frank Smith, a daughter Karen Smith and siblings Buel Charles, Georgia Hyde and Kermit Charles.

Survivors include: Sons & daughters-in-law: Larry & Pat Lanning, KY, James & Annette Lanning, Ellijay, Dink & Debbie Lanning, Ellijay; Daughters: Sharon Smith, Ellijay, Sonya Smith, Jasper, GA; Brothers: Elmo Charles, McCaysville, William Thomas Charles, Ellijay; Sisters: Claudia Brown, Gainesville, GA, Jewel Franklin, Cumming, GA; 10 Grandchildren: Mana Lanning, Anthony Lanning, Andy Lanning, Monica Lanning, Camille Souza, Tyler Hardy, Trista Evans, Kayla Sevcech, Tiffany Smith & Madison Smith. 8 Great grandchildren

Funeral services will be held Saturday September 1, 2012 at 2pm from the Turniptown Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Pettit, Rev. Tim Hyde & Rev. Keith Crowe officiating. Interment will be held in the Turniptown Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday August 31st from 12 noon until 9pm at the Bernhardt Funeral Home.

Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital @ 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Mrs. Smith.
